Webinar to unlock potential of climate and carbon tools for horticulture

As another summer of heatwaves, bushfires, and storms bears down on Queensland, primary producers are using every available resource to protect their families, crops, and businesses.

Growcom, the project delivery arm of Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG) is bringing together experts in a webinar on Friday 8 December to guide horticulture growers on using three vital tools: Climate Monitor, My Climate View, and the Carbon Calculator.

David Carey, Senior Horticulturist with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will provide a demonstration on how horticulture businesses can use information from Climate Monitor to inform on-farm decision making.

Carey will also introduce the Carbon Calculator, explaining how and why growers can calculate their property’s carbon footprint.

Tom Golland from the Bureau of Meteorology will walk growers through how to use My Climate View, which can give users climate information tailored to their location and commodity.

Karen George, Growcom’s Resilience Manager, and webinar facilitator, commented on the need to empower growers around climate and sustainability.

“These tools give growers information that is tailored to their property and their crop so they can make plans to protect their families and livelihoods.

“It is also an opportunity to ask our experts questions on how to get the most out of these three resources.”
