A new innovative pilot project being run in South Queensland aims to make it easier for businesses to recruit skilled workers by creating sustainable jobs for individuals across the agribusiness supply chain.
AgFood Connect is a collaboration between DGT Employment and Training, Growcom and Golden West Apprenticeships.
Growcom Business Engagement Coordinator based out of our Toowoomba office Blair Brown said AgFood Connect brings together DGT’s employment and training expertise and experience to give businesses quick access to a skilled workforce and suitable candidates who can hit the ground running.
“The program takes the pressure off businesses by performing the screening and recruitment processes and ensuring potential recruits have the right skills for a particular job,” Mr Brown said.
“Participation in the project is at no cost and should help to reduce hiring risk for employers while also driving down recruitment time and expense.”
Under the project Growcom will engage with businesses in the agriculture industry, identifying skills requirements and suitable job and work experience opportunities to secure jobs for young people across South Queensland.
As an added incentive, employers who employ through this project are also eligible to access wage incentives.
“Under the Youth Jobs PaTH initiative businesses can trial a young person for four to 12 weeks in an internship to see if they are the right fit,” Mr Brown said.
“You will receive $1000 to help with the cost of the trial and if you decided to hire them, you may be eligible to receive a financial incentive of up to $10,000.”
AgFood Connect is being delivered in the South Queensland regions: Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Toowoomba and Darling Downs, Kingaroy, Kilcoy, Dalby, Roma, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe and Warwick.
