Farm Business Management Skill Set

Good business management practices are the key to a successful, profitable business. Farmers who are just starting out or wanting to take their business to the next level have an opportunity to strengthen their business management skills with funding from the Queensland Government to undertake the AHCSS00025 Farm Business Management Skill Set.

The training aims to enhance practical business skills and covers business planning, budgeting, risk management and performance management. It will provide the essential knowledge needed to more effectively manage your farm and will help you to identify areas for improvement.

The Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network (QAWN) is partnering with NQ Powertrain (RTO 32302) and Rural Training Queensland (RTO 31258) to run training workshops in key rural locations throughout Queensland. Farm owners and farm business managers who are keen to take up this great opportunity are invited to register their interest.


  • $245 (non concessional students)

DURATION: 4 days

MINIMUM STUDENT NUMBERS: 8 per location (locations will be determined by interest)

During this practical training course you will get to complete a comprehensive business plan for your farm.


The Queensland Government provides a generous subsidy for the AHCSS00025 Farm Business Management Skill Set under its Higher Level Skills program. To be eligible to receive the subsidy you must be an owner, manager or worker of a farm in Queensland and:

  • be aged 15 years or over and no longer at school; permanently reside in Queensland, be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or New Zealand citizen
  • NOT hold, and NOT be enrolled in, a certificate lV or higher level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training.
